Not counting her out completely but Ms. Del Rey has dug a bit of a hole for herself. Her performances on SNL last weekend were pretty bad. On a positive note, the creative genius that is Woodkid, has crafted a beautiful remix of “Born To Die” which really enhances the tune. It’s an elegant reinterpretation featuring rolling percussion and horns. Stunning.

“Born To Die” the single is released on Sunday January 23rd on Polydor Records on download and 7″ vinyl picture disc.
“Born To Die” the album is released on Monday January 30th on Polydor Records on download and CD.

Rusko

Grandparents Go Raving In New Rusko Video

I am actually digging the old school rave and drum ‘n’ bass elements in this latest effort from Rusko. Even more, I love the video for “Somebody To Love” which is centered around a Rusko gig and two lovely senior citizens who cross paths and end up raving like a couple of MDMA fueled teenagers. Look for the single via Mad Decent on January 24th and full album called “Songs” in March.

The teaser for “Pépito Bleu” hit the web via Record Makers last week and now the full official video is here. Directors Sanghon Kim and Mathieu Tonetti take a page out of the 80′s classic “The Dark Crystal” on this one. Absolutely magical. The single is the first from Tellier‘s forthcoming album “My God Is Blue.” Looking forward to seeing how this story unfolds.

Back in April, LCD Soundsystem played its final show at the legendary Madison Square Garden. Why James Murphy made the decision to disband so soon is a bit of a mystery to me. “SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS” is both a concert film documenting this once in a life time performance as well as an intimate portrait of Murphy. Very much looking forward to this.

If you happen to be headed to the Sundance Film Festival, here are the screening times and locations.

Sunday, January 22, midnight – Egyptian Theater, Park City
Monday, January 23, 9:45pm – Broadway Center Cinema 3, SLC
Wednesday, January 25, 11:30pm – Prospector Square Theater, Park City
Friday, January 27, 10:00pm – Redstone Cinema 7, Park City
Saturday, January 28, 9:45pm – Broadway Center Cinema 3, SLC

PBS Arts - Evolution of Music Online

PBS Arts Documentary On Evolution Of Music Online

Came across this short documentary by PBS Arts on the evolution of music online. Features interviews with some of the players whom have played a role in curating music in the digital landscape (Jon Cohen-FADER Label, Ryan Dombal-Pitchfork, Blake Whitman-Vimeo, Anthony Volodkin-Hype Machine). Nice to see music blogs getting some credit and even more exciting is the comeback of the music video. Exciting times indeed.

Good lord! These guys are on fire! The flip of Disclosure‘s recently released double A-side single gives me hope for the future of dance music in 2012. It’s as if these young lads were elder producers who’ve seen genres come and go over the year and picked out the best bits of each. Reality is, they are crafting this futuristic soul music strictly from their hearts and minds. It’s a beautiful thing indeed. Buy this and “Tenderly” now and look for them on tour supporting another breakout star, SBTRKT, this spring.  Pre-order this now via Make Mine.
