Ok…ok…it’s not earth shattering music news but it’s cool. These guys pulled another surprise promotion out of the hat with a Lotus F1 team partnership and appearance at this weekend’s 2013 Monaco Grand Prix.

Last week a few images and video snippets popped up on the Lotus F1 team Facebook page unveiling a Daft Punk/Columbia Records sponsored car.

Then the other day at the Monaco Grand Prix both Thomas and Guy-Man walked with the drivers, popped up on TV a couple of times through the race, and set Twitter on fire. Good stuff.

Mark McNairy For Norse Projects SS13

Style: Mark McNairy For Norse Projects SS13 Collection

I don’t what side of this collab to be more excited about really. Is it because of the concise and minimal Scandinavian design sense given to everything that Norse Projects does or because I’m a select fan of Mark McNairy? New Amsterdam did start with shoes…

Maybe it’s his apt understanding of color for this Norse Projects SS13 capsule collab. McNasty’s use of neutrals, when combined with a pop of color immediately communicate coolness or warmth in the form of 10mm crepe soles that feature highlighted welts and draw inspiration from key tones.

The pack includes the Black Strap Chukka ($391USD) and the Penny Loafer ($400). Both are available for a limited time to shop and cop through the Norse Store so beat feet before you find yourself sole-less. And that would really be a shame…

Legendary composer and producer, Giorgio Moroder, made his “DJ” debut at the age of 73 the other night as part of a recent Red Bull Music Academy event in New York. Moroder has been at the tip of everyone’s tongue as of late due to the ode to him by Daft Punk on “Random Access Memories.” The set as you’ll hear below (thank you RBMA Radio) was pure disco all the way through. A history lesson showcasing a number of his productions from late ’70′s and early ’80′s.

Solange invited The xx’s Oliver Sim on stage for an impromptu cover of the ’90′s R&B jam “Make It Hot” in London a few months back. She later returned the favor. Oliver and team blessed the crowd at the recent Night+Day festival in Berlin with another soulful songstress, Jessie Ware. Equally impressive, was their decision to do a live mash-up of Stardust’s “Music Sounds Better With You” plus Modjo’s “Lady.” I swear I have this white label in the archives. Good stuff.

Taken from the forthcoming new album “Where Does This Door Go” (available July 16), “Her Favorite Song” is the latest from funk soul brutha Mayer Hawthorne. Floating amongst the chunky bass lines, guitar licks, and high-hat stabs are the sultry vocals of Ms. Jessie Ware. A magical combination. Proper jam. Give it a listen and purchase on iTunes. Nuff said.

Check the movie clip mash-up trailer for the new album.

As an extra bonus, here’s a portion of a recent Mayer Hawthorne DJ set from Cinco de Mayo. Daytime drinking party jams.

By the looks of the picture above, the southern California sun is treating our friend Todd Edwards very well. Looking happy and healthy with every reason to be smiling ear to ear. This week’s official release of “Random Access Memories” marks another highly regarded collaboration between Edwards and his close friends Thomas Bangalter and Guillaume Emmanuel de Homem-Christo. Todd is not only one of the few artists to work with Daft Punk on a recurring basis but they are also close friends whom have built a relationship based on mutual respect and admiration for their craft. In fact, Todd’s recent relocation to Los Angeles from his native home of New Jersey was sparked by the time he spent here in southern California working with them on the record. We are happy to have him nearby and look forward to coordinating another visit to San Diego soon.

BBC Radio 1 asked Edwards to provide a mix for the historic Essential Mix series. The mix which is full of exclusive edits and remixes aired this past weekend. It’s part tribute to “Random Access Memories”, dedication to all those who collaborated on the album, and showcase of Todd’s incredible catalog of releases over the years.

Head over to Radio 1 to listen to the mix.

BONUS:

Todd recently sat down for at Red Bull Music Academy 2013 in New York to chat about his career. Watch the full interview here.
