Famed former LCD Soundsystem front man, DFA head honcho, and sometimes DJ James Murphy recently made a stop at the Red Bull Music Academy for an interview then took his record bag to the underground to serve up an hour long DJ set (all vinyl, of course) at the Boiler Room. They don’t allow their videos to be embedded for some reason, so click here to watch and listen.

Yoanne Lemoine is playing a crucial role in the return of the music video as an integral piece of branding in the music world. The visual he directed for Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Jeans” recently hit the 30 million view mark. His latest effort is another beautiful piece of cinematography for Drake‘s “Take Care.” It takes a cue from Lemoine’s video for “Iron” (which is near the 12 million view mark on YouTube) with the dramatic slow motion action shots against a minimal background. Arrows, an angry bull, exotic birds and fish, and…..Rihanna. Glorious.

Drake also uploaded a second new video from the new album for “HYFR” featuring Lil Wayne. Much less dramatic but equally as entertaining. Lemoine wasn’t at the helm of this one. The concept is Drake getting re-bar mitzvah’d and the subsequent star studded after party. Good times.

The Diplo brand continues to expand with the addition of book publishing to the mix. Millions of airline miles and years of grindin’ later, this guy is reaping the benefits of his hard work. “128 Beats Per Minute” is part documentary and part travel guide. Photographer Shane McCauley hopped around the globe with Diplo and captured all the action.

He’s already released a candidate for song of the year with Usher called “Climax” that we’ve featured here a couple of times. Latest is that he’s been spending some quality time with Usher’s super-protege Justin Beiber as well as Snoop Dog. It’s gonna get weird.

Yesterday the blogosphere was buzzing on this in studio preview video preview of A$AP Rocky and Lana Del Rey’s collaboration called “Ridin’.” Originally supposed to be part of a mixtape released today by Brooklyn-based production duo, The Kickdrums, it was removed at the eleventh hour at the request of A$AP and his label. It garnered so much attention that he wants it to be included in forthcoming album. Disappointing but understood. I really didn’t have high expectations for the track prior to giving it a listen for the first time. Just seemed like a marketing scheme to build some buzz (which it did). Something organic about these two voices together. Codeine and weed induced ‘ride or die chick’ type stuff. Looking forward to getting a full stream of this.

Kindness

Introducing Kindness

When I get word of a project associated in any way with Philippe Zdar (of Cassius), I listen. He and Kindness (born Adam Bainbridge) have crafted the infectious album “World, You Need A Change Of Mind.” Recorded and mixed at Zdar’s studio in Paris, the outcome is disco, funk, indie, R&B…..silky smooth. Touted as the next big thing by many in the UK over the past couple of years, Kindness lives up to expectations with this effort. Unfortunately, Modular took down the preview of the album on SoundCloud for streaming. Give the videos below a view to give you a taste before heading over to iTunes.

When the hotel Au Vieux asked graffiti artist TILT to design a room, he saw the opportunity to do something that would be much more of an installation rather than just decorating a space. TILT invited a fellow artists Tober, Grizz, and Don Cho to provide great old school style tags, drips, and throw ups. The end product is a brilliant play on space. A blank canvas divided in two. One half staying pristine and white with the other half of the room representing chaos. See below how it all came together.
