Laidback Luke & DJ Atrak - Shake It Down (DJ Sneak Remix)
Thursday, December 11th, 2008
DJ Atrak has made a pretty seamless transition into the dance music from his hip hop/turntablism upbringing. The new indie label he started with Nick Catchdubs (Fool’s Gold) is on the rise with acts like Treasure Fingers and LA Riots in high demand on the remix and DJ circuit. Doesn’t hurt being pals with Kanye West. Atrak linked up with house-meister Laidback Luke and together they spawned “Shake It Down.” Produced in just four hours?! We hear Luke knocks out new productions and remixes in record time. The tune has gotten some significant play in recent months and now gets its official release on Fool’s Gold with a remix from none other than the legendary DJ Sneak.
Here is some feedback from some of the big names canning this track:
“Guaranteed to shake any room to its deepest foundations.” - Erol Alkan
“A complete monster… really massive. It’s like a ‘get out of jail free’ track.” - Tiga
“The best track of the year, ‘Shake It Down’ is my favorite club music. My secret weapon for the 6 last months.” - Brodinski
“This record doesn’t sound new or old, it just feels like dancin!” - Feadz
“Best Hip-Hop/Techno collaboration since Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon 2. Makes me wanna be Joe Pesci to three-peat.” - DJ Mehdi
“Big tune!” - Boys Noize
“Dope track, play it all the times big or micro rooms… just bangin everywhere!!!” - Crookers
“I’m jealous!!! Fantastic track!!!” - Etienne De Crécy

Justice (Live) - Behind the scenes

The folks at JazzMutant received some priceless advertising when Daft Punk joined Kanye West during the 50th Grammy Awards to perform “Stronger.” They appeared on stage in their pyramid with four Lemurs. Seems that Justice have also incorporated the Lemur’s into their live show. The backbone of their setup consists of three synchronized Lemurs plugged into Ableton Live.

The French really understand the balance between audio and visual. Here is a clip from a live set by Etienne de Crecy from his set at the Transmusicales Fesitval in France, last year. Pretty impressive. Thank you to Kanye for the heads up on this one.

A message from Kanye to the world regarding the upcoming “Glow In The Dark” tour:
“This is not a regular show. I tell people, hey, this show is gonna be crazy and they say, “I bet it is!”, BUT THEY HAVE NO IDEA! People expect me to come with innovative stuff… I’m sure a lot of people expect some neon, lower east side, post everybody dressing like the 80’s stuff or maybe the light up jacket from the Grammies, perhaps the robot girl and light spectacle they saw on Youtube from the European run. My friends….. NONE OF THE ABOVE!!! AN ENTIRELY NEW DESIGNED SET!!! ROBOT DESIGNED BY ACCLAIMED ARTIST CHRISTIAN COLON, CREATURE’S BY THE LEGENDARY JIM HENSON’S CREATURE SHOP, LIGHTING BY MARTIN PHILLIPS AND JOHN McGUIRE RESPONSIBLE FOR LAST YEARS FESTIVAL ANNIHILATOR, DAFT PUNK’S PYRAMID, POSSIBLY THE GREATEST LIGHT SHOW OF ALL TIME!! THANKS 2 PAUL, THOMAS AND GUYMAN FOR THE HOOK UP. SIDEBAR, MY SET DOES NOT HAVE A PYRAMID IN IT OR ANYWAY FEEL LIKE A BITE OF DAFT’S SHOW. WE’VE GOT HOLOGRAMS SHOT BY HYPE WILLIAMS!!! SAM SPIELGAL, MIKE DEAN, JEFF BAXTER AND I HAVE SPENT A MONTH AND A HALF RE-ORCHESTRATING EVERY TRACK 2 FOLLOW A NARRATIVE. WE’VE LEARNED TO SURVIVE OFF OF 1 HOUR OF SLEEP A DAY!”
