The World Is Daft - DVD Canceled

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Unfortunate news for Daft Punk fans eagerly awaiting the release of “The World Is Daft.”

After weeks of talking and thinking.

After lots of discussions, it has come to me that the best decision would be to stop thinking about releasing this DVD

All I can say is that I wasn’t told to stop by the Daft or EMI in anyways.

The problem is and will always be about the samples that the Daft Punk are using in the tracks. Copyrights owners of those samples won’t never let me release this DVD in peace.

So I took the decision to only create 4 examples of this DVD : one for me, of course, one for EMI, and two for the Daft themselves.

It will now be their decision to, one day or another, release this DVD

I would like to say, one last time, thank you to all fans whome sent me videos so I can do my work. It is all yours

But as a final gift to you, I’ll take a “rendez-vous”, here, on this site, on june the 14, at 9 PM French Time for a final surprise. After that, I’ll shutdown this website.

Sounds like Bangalter and Guy-Man were eager to go back into seclusion to make some new robot rock. Fine by us! Always look forward new material from the French house dons. We are still keeping our fingers crossed that a couple of new tunes will pop up on their individual indie labels Roulé and Crydamoure. Only time will tell. Daft Punk likes to take their time. We’ll keep you posted!

Classic! Mike Delgado - Byrdman’s Revenge (Original + 2004 Remix)

Byrdman.jpg

I remember hearing this track for the first time in a couple of bootleg Daft Punk DJ sets in the mid 90’s. Instantly got goose bumps and it still brings a smile to my face every time I play it. Mike Delgado made great use of the sample from the original Patrice Rushen classic “Haven’t you heard” (1979) on “Byrdman’s Revenge” (Henry Street Music). This is one that will never leave the crate.

A love letter to the originators of French house music….

There is no question that over the past couple of years there has been a resurgence in quality electro/house music coming out of France. Spearheaded by the Ed Banger Records crew lead by long time Daft Punk evangelist Pedro “Busy P” Winter. Acts like Justice, Kavinsky, Sebastian, and Surkin have defined a harder, more electro and rock inspired take on “French Touch.” But core to it all…..is house. Of course, the original house forefathers from Chicago and Detroit spawned it all but more specifically, for todays discussion, the producers who drove the first big house movement out of France back in the early to mid 90’s. It was a sound inspired by disco, funk, and hip hop. Producers and record labels such as Buffalo Bunch, Alan Braxe, Fred Falke, Modjo, Benjamin Diamond, Diamond Traxx, Play Paul, Raw Man, Sebastien Leger, Jess and Crabbe, Roulé, Crydamoure, We In Music, Fiat Lux, Cassius, and many others. And of course…Daft Punk (prior to the freak accident in their studio that morphed them into the robots we know and love today). Check this page out to see a laundry list of the amazing records I am referring to and the samples used to make them.

As a kid who grew up on rock and hip hop it was these producers and this music that really got me interested in house music. The “French Touch” sound melded together all my favorite parts of the genres that I loved into a new and exciting format. So this one goes out to them. Your music still continues to move me and others. Both newbies and long time fans. Cheers!

In the spirit of sharing (and in some cases…education) we have bundled up a few favorites for your enjoyment.

French house goodness can be downloaded here.

And as an added bonus, here is one of the masters at work at a recent gig in Australia. Fred Falke rocking the live bass in the mix!!

Basement Jaxx - Rendez Vu (House Moguls Remix)

Basement_Jaxx,_Band.jpg

We are eagerly awaiting the new Basement Jaxx full length that is due later this year. Simon and Felix recently secured a residency at the legendary club Pacha in Ibiza for the summer and a couple of projects are seeing the light of day now. They have co-written and produced a song for 80’s icon Cindy Lauper. Yes, kind of random but you never know. Could be a banger. The track is entitled “Rocking Chair” and will be on her new album released in May. The Jaxx also did a remix for label mate Adele. The tune is called “Cold Shoulder” and has been getting some play on Radio 1 recently.

In order to satisfy our Jaxx addiction, at least temporarily, we came across a solid remix of “Rendez Vu” by the House Moguls. You may remember them from their remix of Daft Punk’s “One More Time.” MSTRKRFT dubbed it as “the best Daft Punk remix ever.” We dont necessarily agree, but it is a great rework of the track non the less.

Louis La Roché (real name = Brett Ewels) came to our attention back in February when his track “Love” was being posted on some blogs tagged as a new production from Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter. Soon there after the 17 year old from Lowestoft (Near Norwich), UK, made a public statement clearing the air. Now that its all said and done, he has properly released a full EP as a free download for all to enjoy. Bangalter would be proud. This thing is chalk full of disco filtered goodness!!
