News Alert! Daft Punk Reported to Score TR2N

Via Billboard:

Daft Punk, the French electronica duo known for their robot personas, have been tapped by Walt Disney Pictures to compose the score for “TR2N”, an update of the studio’s 1982 science fiction classic “Tron”, Billboard has confirmed.

The film, currently in production, is tentatively scheduled for a 2011 release.

The “TR2N” score marks Daft Punk’s first foray into the studio since 2005’s “Human After All.” After an extended hiatus, the duo reemerged in 2007 for an extensive world tour, spawning the Grammy-wining live set “Alive 2007.” The group’s 2001 track “Harder Better Faster Stronger” was adapted by Kanye West for his single “Stronger,” and the pair appeared on the 2008 Grammy Awards with the rapper.

The musicians, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter split their time between Paris and Los Angeles, where they have have assembled a new recording studio for the TR2N project.

Sneak peek from Comic Con of the first trailer for the film. This is going to be big!

Jess & Crabbe - Demolition Tape 5

jess&crabbe.jpg

Jess & Crabbe….hard to put into words how influential they were on us. Their sound reached beyond the frontiers of house music. Inspired by hip-hop, reggae, Chicago house, with a punk attitude. A little background for those who may not be familiar:

Jess experimented in punk, reggae sound systems and raves before diving into Chicago house while Crabbe was into rap, hip hop, and jungle. They formed “Hometown”, a DJ collective that rocked clubs such as the infamous Rex Club in Paris. Shortly after Crabbe worked with Daft Punk on ‘Oh Yeah’ off of the historic “Homework” album, they bought some machines and started to produce tracks. After releasing ten epic 12’’s together, they unfortunately went their separate ways.

Amongst the the original material on the legendary Fiat Lux Recordings label and remixes Jess & Crabbe blessed us with between 1999 and 2001 they put together a series of four mixtapes (yes, actual tapes…and we have all of them) called the “Demolition Tapes.” Our friends at Flou Kids gave us a heads up that they not only did a DJ date together in January but are reviving the mixtape series and we couldn’t be happier. Christmas has come early!

Appears to have been a successful scam pulled off in Shanghai, China surrounding a “secretDaft Punk concert that was schedule for February 13th. 3800 people apparently bought tickets over the course of a couple of days at 500 RMB a pop ($70-80). A Facebook group has popped up recently dedicated to the issue. The photographs below were taken by surveillance camera at the ticket office the scammers rented.

Daft Punk have issued an official response:

“DENIAL. Daft Punk is not playing in Shangri. The band are not touring this year, and at no point were they approached for this show, and at no point was there ever a possibility that they would do such a show.

The band and those around them were made aware of the scam in the last day or so, and are very upset that there are crooks out there trying to rip off the bands loyal fans.

All Daft Punk shows are announced on the bands official MySpace site, and we urge fans to check the site before purchasing tickets for shows.

The bands representatives are currently looking into what future action can be taken regarding the fraudsters responsible for the current scam. Daft Punk are looking forward to visiting and performing in China as part of their next world tour, in 2010 or 2011.”

So while we are saddened by this event we are excited that they are in the studio working on material and planning on hitting the road again to promote it. For our fellow Daft Punk fans and to the folks who were duped by this scam we give you a couple of recordings to keep us going.

Tis’ the season of giving and we are diving into the archives to share some gems between now and the end of the year. We’re going to start it off with a bang! This could very well could be the best Daft Punk remix to date. A bold statement indeed, but give it a listen and you will be hard pressed to disagree. It flew under the radar for most and was only shared amongst a few blogs and forums since its limited edition white label release back in early 2006. The Adjuster (Johan Rundqvist) of Sweden continues to produce for various labels so make sure to check out his other productions.

Tiga - Mind Dimension (Youth Attack! ‘Kill the Rhythm’ Remix)

“We’re just two kids who got bored one day, re-discovered Daft Punk’s ‘Homework’, got drunk and decided to swap our guitars for synths,” says Lee Dunn and Chris Petty otherwise known as “Youth Attack!” They have remixed tunes from Digitalism, The Ting Tings, Late of the Pier and have provided us with their latest rub of Tiga’s “Mind Dimension.” This one reminds us a bit of The Chemical Brothers sound. Sure to go down well in big room sets. These guys also run a monthly club night called “Kill The Rhythm” in Harrogate, United Kingdom so if you are in the area go out and support. Give the tune a listen and let us know what you think!
