Pacemaker

pacemaker1.jpg

This thing is the coolest little piece of digital music technology since the ipod. The Pacemaker is a mobile (pocket sized and only 7 ounces in weight) personal DJ mixing system. Its massive hard drive (120GB) allows for storage of more than enough music to play around with. Its touch control system allows you to select songs, mix, change pitch, sample, loop, filter, and much more! Its essentially Serato Scratch in the palm of your hand. Bonkers! Some beta devices have been delivered to a small population of DJs and technology folks and its getting rave reviews from everyone from what we are told. This thing is going to inspire a whole new crop of DJs after people get their hands on it. It will see its official public release sometime in March and will retail for $700.

To the good folks at Tonium…..Please send us one!!! We are big tech geeks over here as well as musicologists. We will promote the hell out of this thing for you!

Here are a few videos to show you how cool this thing really is.

Get Nasty

bryancox.jpg

This one hit our inbox recently from the good folks at Crux Records. Slept on it for a couple of days otherwise it would have been posted earlier. Bryan Cox is waving the fidget house flag (a la Switch, Herve, Trevor Loveys, and a few others) for America. We really arent fans of tagging people to genres but Cox is promoting his production work as so. Whatever the label, this track delivers on its name. Massive bass lines and glitchy beats that will sound nice on a proper sound system.

Digital Music Alliance

Fellow musicologists,

The Internet has enabled the era of user-generated content as we all know. Prime examples of user-generated content are the blogs that a lot of us write and social networking sites and forums that we belong to, which allow easy publishing of and access to information. Our belief is that the volume of blog posts about an album is positively correlated with future sales (kinda obvious to most).

With this being said, we decided to create a group (and write this post) to provide a framework for discussion about how user-generated content influences consumer decision making (buying records, CD’s, and mp3’s) and to create a positive open dialog between mp3 bloggers and independent/major record labels.

First step was to create a group on Facebook to facilitate the discussion. Encourage you to sign up (if you are on Facebook) and voice your opinions, post news related to the subject, talk about your experiences in writing about the music that you love and any interactions you may have had with the labels and artists that you promote.

JOIN HERE!!!

Cheers!

Bangalter Love?

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

bangalter.jpg

So it seems someone is dropping a link to a track called “Love” in the comments section of a couple of major music blogs (clever way to get your music heard). Rumor is that it is a new production from Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk. One source says that Xavier from Justice has confirmed it is true. Probability is low that its really him but we will keep you posted. In the meantime, here it is for your listening pleasure.

EDIT - Confirmed not to be Bangalter. Track is a production by Louis La Roche. Seems that someone grabbed a rip of the track and started posting it on the net referencing Thomas Bangalter. La Roche has provided a high quality version of the track. Download link below is now updated with it.

JabbawockeeZ.jpg

Dance crews are getting a lot of air time here in the US recently due to a show on MTV and a new movie in theaters. Without a doubt, Jabbawockeez are the most impressive crew in the dance game today (not to mention they represent San Diego amongst other cities on the West coast). This video is just one of many mind blowing performances. Byters will be eaten!!!

Follow up to the critically acclaimed and award winning D.A.N.C.E. video. This one is much less upbeat which is fitting for the vibe of the track.

This would have been pretty incredible to witness in person. Two of the most talented percussionists in popular music absolutely killing it on their kits at the The Roots Grammy Jam Session last week.
