Its the Remix!!!

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Herve is a machine right now. Cranking out remix after remix along with his original productions and side projects. This one is a rub of the already very quirky “Salmon Dance” from the new Chemical Brothers album. There is a cheeky track on his myspace page called “Cheap Thrills” that we like. Hopefully that one gets released soon.

Chemical Brothers - Salmon Dance (Herve Remix)

This next one has been one of the most talked about remixes in recent months. Its a massive remix of an already massive Justice tune. Soulwax did work on this one! Just going to leave it at that. Enjoy.

A great short documentary on the making of one of my favorite songs of all time. Cant even begin to name how many artists and genres owe homage to these guys. Enjoy.

As the Daft Punk juggernaut keeps skyrocketing everyone wants a piece of the action. Their newest fan, Kanye West, invited Pedro Winter and the boys back to his studio while in Chicago for the Lallapalooza gig. They got a preview of Kanye’s soon to be released new album. We are keeping our fingers crossed that Thomas and Guy-Man spend some time on their side projects after the tour. They both have indie labels that produced some of the best filtered house music in the 90’s. A handful of great records came out of both RoulĂ© and Crydamoure camps. Stardust saw a revival (not that it ever lost its charm) this summer with its role in the Daft Punk live show. When that guitar lick kicks in it still gives me goosebumps. The combination of Bangalter, Alan Braxe, and Benjamin Diamond produced a classic house track that will live the test of time. In celebration, here is the original Chaka Khan song in which the guitar sample was taken as well as the masterpiece that became of it. Enjoy.

As reported recently, our boy Dave Taylor is coming back to the States for a few dates. The remix work slowed down a bit while he worked on the new M.I.A. stuff. Looking forward to some new stuff from him in the coming months. To hold us over we were recently sent an edit of the rework he did for Martin Solveig. Great summer tune.

Here are some clips of Taylor on the CDJ’s at a recent DJ gig in the UK. Thanks to our friends at Disturbed Beats.

Its the Remix!!!

First, a remix by VNDLSM (recent name change due to another group named Vandalism already on the scene). Their take on Rihanna’s “Umbrella” generated a good amount of buzz for these guys. I am feeling this sound coming out of Toronto. This is a clever rub using the vocal from Chaka Khan’s 1978 hit “I’m Every Woman.” More to come from them soon….

You cant turn on Radio 1 without hearing a bit of Calvin Harris lately. Coming out of Scotland, some compare his sound to that of last years big name Mylo. I am not so sure I agree. Mr. Oizo commissioned on this one.

Sebastian and Kavinsky have been openers for Daft Punk on their “Alive 2007″ tour along with Ratatat and The Rapture. Ed Banger top dog Busy P recently jumped on the tour on the Denver, CO. date a few days ago. He is doing a tour diary for Fader Magazine’s website. Both he and a couple of the Ed Banger crew hit LA for a special event at the Viper Room sponsored by Scion. A lot of buzz on the internets about the Soulwax (AKA 2 Many DJs) remix of Justice’s “Phantom II.” Here is a video of Justice dropping the track and blending it (via the traditional CDJ breakdown) into of all things, the Beastie Boys…

And here is Ed Banger team member Mr. Oizo dropping the original “Phantom” at the same venue a few weeks before….
