On the Radar: Esmee Denters
Sunday, June 24th, 2007
The purpose of this site is to expose people to new music. I listen to everything. As strictlysocial.com enters its second year of existence, look for more regular posts and expansion into more genres. With that being said, I would like to present Esmee Denters. Step aside “American Idol”, the power of YouTube in full effect here. Get used to seeing this incredibly talented 18 year old’s face as she is going to be doing big things in the next year. Justin Timberlake has her opening for him on his current European tour and signed her as the first artist on his newly founded Tennman Records label. No doubt she has been spending some time in the studio with JT and his super-producer crew. Interested to see what Timbaland and Pharell put together for her.
How she came up:
Here is Esmee covering JT’s “What Goes Around”
Here she is singing “Let Me Love You” by Mario
Did I mention she was nice on the keys?
Daft Punk + Tron?
Sunday, June 17th, 2007
Ok. The version of the Daft Punk show that I saw at Coachella was already incredible. Since then, they have continued to tweak it and add new things to make it even better. Daft Punk did their homecoming show in Paris the other night. This was a huge production. Sebastian, Kavinskiy, and Klaxons opened. The tracklisting for the show continues to remain essentially the same but for this one they did an encore that people cannot stop talking about. A red glow appears and coils its way up the pyramid and then makes its way onto Thomas and Guy’s suits and helmets. It makes for a really cool “Tron-like” visual as you will see from the videos below. Then they break into the encore which is a fun mash up of “Together”, “One More Time”, and “Music Sounds Better With You.” I cannot tell you how excited I am about the LA show coming up. I really hope they do the encore for us.
And a special treat here.

Joshua “Herve” Harvey is at it again. A handful of new productions and remixes have come out in the past couple of months under his Count of Monte Cristal guise. A few of them in coordination with Sinden. I always look forward to new stuff from this guy. Look out for new material in the coming months from the Speaker Junk project with Trevor Loveys as well as his own EP on Dubsided.
New Jaxx

Word on the street is that Basement Jaxx are working on new material. A follow up to “Crazy Itch Radio” is due sometime next year. Here is an interview with Felix at a party he was DJing at the Cannes Film Festival a few weeks ago.
In the meantime, there are a couple of new EPs coming out on their Atlantic Jaxx label to keep us fans going. The first one is called the “Nifty EP” and has a couple of gems on it. Keep an eye out for it as well as the others this month.

Its been a while since I have picked up a record from Eric Prydz. He continues represent well as one of the top dance music producers coming out of Sweden. A lot of people may know him from his reworking of Steve Winwood’s “Call On Me” which got a ton of airplay last year. I also recommend checking out his rub of Switch’s “A Bit Patchy.”
Here is a recent tune from Prydz that has really grown on me after putting it in the rotation a few weeks ago. Cheers!
