Big Love

This song brings me back to a great period in house music. Disco inspired, filtered, and funky. Pete Heller’s “Big Love” still works on the dancefloor today. Its a timeless track in my opinion. Gonna just leave it at that. Cheers!

Last night a DJ saved my life…

Ok, not really, but a DJ definitley helped me forget about a very long stressfull week. Last night I had the pleasure of finally getting to see Dave Taylor do his thing live. If you are a regular visitor to this site, you know I have mad respect for this guy. Big ups to Barry Weaver, J. Overell, and the folks at Stingaree for making this happen. Who knows when Switch will be back to the US, let alone San Diego, so it was not something I was going to miss. Got there early to see the opening set by NY’s Stretch Armstrong. He banged out some accessible, dancefloor friendly hip hop, 80’s, and mash ups to get the crowd going. As it got closer to midnight the tempo picked up and he threw in some electro house stuff to get the crowd prepped for the main event. As I had predicted, Switch plugged in a laptop and some effects boxes instead of doing a traditional DJ set. Most likely used Ableton to put the set together. Anyways.. I grabbed my crew and found a spot where I could get a good view of Switch doing his thing. Armstrong took a step back, Switch plugged in and the journey began. The set was comparible to what Daft Punk is doing in their live show (minus the robot gear) in playing a set of only self produced or remixed work. The only track I heard that wasnt something he touched directly was Speaker Junk’s rub of Basement Jaxx Take Me Back to Your House” (which killed by the way). He played all the monster remixes that DJs have been drooling over in the past year or so = FutureHeads, Spank Rock, Coldcut, etc. I doubt the soundsystem had been pushed in that place before like it was last night. Although there were maybe only 10 other people there other than myself that were familiar with his body of work, the crowd seemed to embrace Switch’s fidgety, glitchy, wobbly signature sound. For me, I was in my happy place. Had goosebumps from start to finish. It was a glorious night!

Here’s a new one for ya. Cheers!

You’ll Find A Way

The music geeks of the world (me included) are really excited about this one. Santogold is the latest project from vocalist Santi White. She used to be in a punk band called Stiffed and has song writing credits for another female vocalist that I was a fan of named Res. This venture has her teamed up with a laundry list of hot producers including the late Disco D, Switch, XXXchange, and others. And guess who is up first on the remix duties??? Thats right, its our boy Dave Taylor once again. This time with his mate Sinden with the assist on the mix. The vocals are wicked in this tune already, and the bangrah style beat emphasizes them even more. Get your electro dancehall vibe on!!

Joshua “Herve” Harvey continues to impress. This one has got elements of glitchy house, B More club, and electro. Looking forward to upcoming releases on Dubsided in 07′. Not to mention his collabos with Trevor Loveys as Speaker Junk. This guy is the real deal. Cheers!

Dave Taylor does it again. This time around he gives Diddy and Xtina a run for their money. Twisted, wobbly “mad hatter” Switch material here. How does he come up with this stuff?

News Flash! Switch is coming to San Diego!! Cant wait to see this guy behind some turntables (and/or laptop). Its going to be glorious!!

Its All True

Tracey Thorn is one of my favorite female vocalists. Her voice is haunting. Big fan of the Everything But The Girl stuff with Ben Watt. Kris Menace gives her new single “Its All True” his synth heavy french touch. Definitely one to add to your playlist. You will be sure to hear this one in the clubs soon. Enjoy!
