There is an axiom out there that “necessity is the mother of invention” and no where is this more apparent than when one speaks of Outlier. Purveyor of tailored performance-driven apparel created by Abe Burmeister and Tyler Clemens. A few guiding principals help to facilitate invention and innovation. The idea that clothing should liberate and not limit what you do during the day. That it should be great looking, well designed, and performance driven.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Brooklyn-based brand, their PSFK presentation is a good place to get acquainted. Outlier’s Burmeister had grown tired of burning through pants (and money) because they couldn’t stand up to the wear and tear associated with his daily bicycle commutes in the city. He not only closed the gap on his seat, but in the marketplace as well. Research and development led him to co-founder Tyler Clemens who was looking to make the perfect shirt out of the same high performance materials. The rest is invention borne out of necessity.
The DIY ethos of the brand has led to technically smart choices such as utilizing three way stretch for movement, ultrafine merino wool for moisture wicking, cooling, and insulating, mil-grade Nyco for durability, and Supermarine for resistance/breathability. All can be found in some of our favorite pieces such as The Three Way Short, The Ultrafine Merino Wool T-Shirt, and The Supermarine Anorak.
As Fall creeps in on the right coast, Outlier has unveiled some new winter layers. The Doublefine Merino Cardigan is back again this year with it’s incredible softness and tailored fit. They’ve offered up a fresh supply of Blazed Cotton Pivot Shirts in new colors to mix and match with the cardigan and Six Foot Scarves. The new Liberated Wool Peacoat integrates a classic look with the highly functional four way stretch and weather resistance and Soft Core Wool Vest provides three layers of highly breathable insulation for a dry and versatile warmth.
