Todd Edwards & Surkin

Music: Surkin And Todd Edwards Collaboration Spawns Futuristic R&B Jam “I Want You Back”

Influential producer and all around great guy Todd Edwards recently hopped on a plane to France spend a few days in the studio with fellow producer and admirer, Surkin. After just a couple of days together they knocked out a few tracks including the futuristic R&B jam “I Want You Back.” The tune almost didn’t happen but since they had finished a couple of tracks so quickly, they pushed forward with another. From a production standpoint, this is a departure of sorts for both producers. Not the cut up UK Garage style stuff you’d expect from Todd and much less electro than most of Surkin’s body of work. Edwards’ vocals really blew me away. I knew the guy had soul, but damn!

The folks at Sound Pellegrino believed so much in this that they put the release on a fast track and Surkin proposed an idea for an accompanying visual. Shot in Edwards’ native New Jersey and Atlantic City, the video follows him as he walks the streets telling his story of love and heartbreak.

You can pre-order “I Want You Back” now on iTunes and score one of only 100 limited edition copies on vinyl here.

For some additional background check out this interview with the duo as they discuss their individual production techniques in addition to how they went about the collaboration.
