Lunice and Hudson Mohawke’s plan to target the American hip hop community with their collaborative instrumental EP under the TNGHT guise is coming together quite nicely given today’s events. The music blogosphere has been on fire speculating on whom the mysterious MC Captain Murphy might be. Many fingers are pointing at producer Flying Lotus. Captain Murphy was introduced in the recent Flying Lotus x Adult Swim release, “Between Friends.” Whether it’s a Flying Lotus side project or not, the music is getting a lot of attention which escalated even further with the release of “Shake Weight (TNGHT Version).” The track relies on TNGHT’s much hyped production “Bugg’n.” What’s most impressive about this mix is how the MC was able to avoid being completely overpowered by the beat. Not an easy task in my opinion. The supporting visual by skateboarding inspired artist lilfuchs (whom has collaborated with Flying Lotus in the past) brings it all together. Two additional tracks entitled “The Ritual” and “Mighty Morphin Foreskin” which are also supported by equally intoxicated lilfuchs visuals, make up the debut Captain Murphy EP called “Duality.”
