Paul Smith is regarded as Britain’s most successful fashion designer. For quite a while now, his work has expanded outside the fashion bubble adding his flavor to cars, furniture, tableware, and now….cameras. As a lifelong photographer, Smith was overjoyed with the opportunity to provide a stylish makeover of the classic Leica X2. This exclusive special edition Leica X2 Edition Paul Smith effectively combines British style with German design. Limited to 1,500 units, it’s going to be a highly collectible item.
Smith is widely known for his use of stripes and he continues that trend here. The metal top plate of the camera is finished in bright orange. There you’ll also find a hand-drawn (engraved) light bulb ‘doodle’ that calls attention to the pop-up flash. Smith applied an eye-catching brilliant yellow/green for the metal base-plate rounded off by a leather finish in British Racing Green.
Watch the video interview with Paul Smith below as he describes his love for photography and the inspiration behind the design of the limited edition X2. No pricing yet available but this and a customizable version of the camera (also extremely limited) are said to be available in October. Stay tuned..
