Music: Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter Scores Short Film “First Point”

Candidly, I sat on this one for a few days. A bit of an internal struggle as to whether or not it was worthy of publishing until after seeing the film. In the end, my love for all things Daft Punk prevailed. Artist Richard Phillips and legendary surf filmmaker Taylor Steele’s five-minute piece “First Point” premiered recently at Basel, Switzerland’s Art Unlimited. Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter signed on to provide the score for the film which centers around a female surfer played by Lindsay Lohan (now you understand my hesitation). The ode to ’60s surf films, exploration of the California dream, and the dark side of Hollywood is most interesting due to Bangalter’s involvement. In the midst of crafting the next Daft Punk album with partner Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo he managed to knock out the ambient electronic soundtrack for the short film. Looking forward to hearing the entire thing. Until we get our hands on the film, you can hear a bit of the score via the trailer below.
