We got the chance to catch up with the man behind one of our favorite tracks this year, “Amore” (an ode to Daft Punk’s “Fresh“). Italian producer Matteo Tulli is Death In Paris 1983. A lover of all things Todd Edwards, skilled guitarist, and a production machine (publishing new tracks nearly daily). Keep an eye on this guy.
First, some music to get you familiar with his sound…
Death in Paris 1983 – Adam’s ale
Death in Paris 1983 – Filter disco
Death in Paris 1983 – 15 gocce
You are cranking out tunes and uploading them to your Soundcloud page every week….what’s your production process?
I have loads of samples of my voice and guitars that I recorded while in school. Amateur stuff but I like the energy in it. There’s something natural and pure about the sounds. So I have a lot of raw material to work with. Usually, I start working from some of these old sounds if I want something specific. Brings me back to those original feelings as a first step. I always put my guitar or my voice or both of them in my records. In some tracks you can’t even tell they are there. Then, I work with loops. I have a ton of them on hand as well. I try to create music around them. Inspiration comes from listening to a lot of music from all genres. I soak music up like a sponge. I learn from listening.
Where are you living and what is the music scene like there?
I live in Italy. You find a lot of pop or pop rock stuff for the most part. There is a lot of great independent music though that is unknown by most people or underestimated.
What is your favorite electronic music track and why?
My favorite track is the Todd Edwards extended vocal mix of Bonnie Pink “Sweet.” Why? It’s brilliant. Todd is a great artist and I really like Bonnie Pink’s voice too. So refreshing and relaxing.
Do you have any official releases forthcoming?
Yes, I have some forthcoming projects with O Groove Records and Electriquearts. Personally, I’ll release another EP this summer but the genre will be totally different. I’m also completing an electronic project with Nina, a friend and fellow guitarist.
Proudest moment as an artist?
I’m still searching to feel like a complete artist. I think “art” is a mirror. I still see only a part of me in it. My focus is on something different. Something that you can’t find anywhere else. I’m very happy when people say me something positive about my tracks.
What are a few of your favorite dance records?
Some old stuff…
Blaze – Found love.
We In Music – Grandlife.
Miles – Sonic 3000
